With all the Hardware in place and installed it is time to setup the PC's to talk to one another. The language they use to talk to each other is known as the protocols.
From the Control Panel Double click on Network. The Network settings Box has the potential to be complicated and because of internet usage you should only use two Windows Protocols which are IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. If you see the protocol called "Netbeui" click on it, Click Remove and Answer "Yes". Netbeui is a protocol that allows Windows to Network peer to peer (without a server) with other PC's. This might seem a good thing, until you realise that it and TCP/IP clash. Those that access the Internet through dial up networking which requires TCP/IP will appreciate the situation.
To Add IPX Click "Add" Double Click "Protocol" Click "Microsoft" Double Click "IPX/SPX compatible protocol"
To Add TCP/IP Click "Add" Double Click "Protocol" Click "Microsoft" Double Click "TCP/IP"
The protocols are added, the Ethernet cards are bound.
